The day after Hurricane Irene, I needed to travel back to MA from Rochester NY. That commute now holds the title for the most miserable I've had to deal with, topping NYC traffic by a landslide. On top of the more typical kinds of delays, the thruway was closed down for a number of miles due to the flooding from the storm. The detour route led hundreds of us off the highway and through some of the small towns in upstate NY at a crawling pace, sometimes covering less than a mile in a hour, at least it was a beautiful day. I wish I had charged my phone or brought a magazine! What I did have with me was my camera.
