I know bugs aren't the most glamourous subject matter, but I wanted to share this photo with you. I shot it yesterday with my point and shoot camera, the Lumix LX5, and I'm pretty amazed at the depth of field and the ability of the camera to focus while so close to this bug. Definitely a nice little camera!

help stop cancer
In the wake of the loss of Steve Jobs, I can't help but be reminded that more research and attention is necessary to rid our world of cancer. Many of us have personally been effected by the loss caused by cancer and we need to work together to come up with a cure.
There are a lot of ways we can help, volunteering our time, fundraising, raising awareness, and I hope that working together we can prevent the tragedies of this disease. I can across the signature cuff below on Lovely Bride, proceeds go to a great cause and it's beautifully designed.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and artist Melissa Joy Manning has partnered with Greenwich Jewelers to design and sell a signature cuff. Both Melissa and Greenwich Jewelers will be donating the profits to their respective research foundations, BCRF and Susan G. Komen.

If you know of any other great fundraisers or ways to contribute I'd love to hear about them, comment here or shoot me an email.

while on the road
The day after Hurricane Irene, I needed to travel back to MA from Rochester NY. That commute now holds the title for the most miserable I've had to deal with, topping NYC traffic by a landslide. On top of the more typical kinds of delays, the thruway was closed down for a number of miles due to the flooding from the storm. The detour route led hundreds of us off the highway and through some of the small towns in upstate NY at a crawling pace, sometimes covering less than a mile in a hour, at least it was a beautiful day. I wish I had charged my phone or brought a magazine! What I did have with me was my camera.

Sometimes the animals want their photo taken too! On a couple of my past engagement sessions, we've noticed different creatures that seem to want to pose for a picture and who am I to say no?

Here are some of the photos from Maggie and Brian's engagement session Friday at Maggie's family cabin in upstate NY. It was absolutely gorgeous there!
